Social Service
Social Welfare & Rural Development Society (SWRDS) is a 33-year-old organization working for poor and rural people of Ghatal, West Medinipur. We have stretched our wings in varied sectors of social work. Here are some of the initiatives we have taken as an NGO.
Old Age Home
The senior citizens of our society are often neglected. Sometimes, they are thrown out of their family. Their near and dear ones didn’t like them. They will feel lonely and due to age they will not be able to work anymore. For these reasons, there is a huge demand for old age homes and with this view, we have started an old age home. Since 1994 the organization has been running our Old Age Home for the Aged people (for 25 people only) at Kushpata under ward no.16 of Ghatal municipal town under Ghatal Municipality in the district of Paschim Medinipur, West Bengal, under Granting-Aid scheme from the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India.
Day-Care-Centre
From Social Welfare & Rural Development Society (SWRDS) we have started a new initiative for the old aged people and senior citizens of our society. This project is like our Old Age Home scheme. Here, we serve Midday meal to the aged persons (for 50 persons only) under the name of Day Care Centre in a rural area at the village of Banaharisinghapur P.O- Monsuka under Monsuka II G.P. of Ghatal Block of the district of Paschim Medinipur under the aged scheme of IPOP of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India, since 1994.
Anath Ashram (Destitute Home)
The organization has been running a Destitute Home for the poor students (numbering 10 only) of the locality belonging to the SC community. The students are mainly from poor and deprived classes. The parents of these students work most of the time so they don’t have enough time to look after their children. These children also need proper fooding and lodging. To provide all the facilities to these children we started our Anath Ashram (Destitute Home). From our NGO, we took all the responsibilities of these children and tried to take proper care of them as far as possible. They have to leave their children under the care of the organization. They have tried the best to take care of them as far as possible. We bear the whole expenses for the board and lodging of the students and the total money which we have to spend was fully borne by the organization.
Creche Centre
Central Social Welfare Board, New Delhi, has sanctioned 6 (six) Creches units under Rajiv Gandhi National Creche Programme in the year 2005-06 to our organization under Ghatal Block. This program is specially designed for the welfare of the children of landless men and women who have to go to work elsewhere, outside their locality. These parents feel guilty as they don’t get enough time for their kids. To lessen these pressures from them, we start a Creche Centre. However, the organization is running one Creche center (for 25 children) now for the benefits of the poor parents.
